Tech-Savvy Teens are Falling Prey to Online Scams Faster than their Grandparents
According to a new study, the number of individuals age 20 or younger reporting they are victims of cyber-fraud has surged 156% over the last three years. That compares to 112% growth during the same time among people age 60 or older. The president of Social Catfish said, “The generation we think of as being the most savvy with the internet ... is where the numbers are growing the fastest when it comes to scams.” For the under-21 crowd, complaints to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center reached about 23,200 last year (up from 9,000 in 2017), resulting in roughly $71 million lost (compared with $8.3 million in 2017). While the growth in complaints was fastest for the nation’s youngest generation, more older Americans are victimized overall: Last year, 105,300 complaints of online scams among those age 60 or older resulted in a collective $966 million loss. Overall, victims of all ages collectively lost $4.2 billion in 2020. Here are some common scams that target teens or young adults and how to avoid them:
Job scams: Be wary of any job that seems too good to be true, or asks you to pay money for training. Never provide any personal information without investigating the company thoroughly.
Online influencer scams: These involve creating fake social media accounts that mimic the influencer, hold a contest and then ask the “winner” to pay a fee or provide their bank account number to get their prize. Never send money
Online shopping scams: This fraud arises from a website created to look like a legitimate online store selling items at a huge discount. However, the item you ordered never arrives and the fraudsters have your credit card and personal information.
Romance scams: These fraudsters end up winning a person’s heart and then try to get the victim’s money, as well. If the person will not video chat or meet in person, that’s a huge warning sign.
The Most Popular Cocktail in Every State
After analyzing more than 100 million Google searches over the past 12 months, Pour Moi's 2021 Cocktail Report gives a glimpse of what cocktails people are looking for online — and presumably drinking. With over 2.3 million searches, piña coladas narrowly beat the pornstar martini (2.2 million) for most-searched cocktail in the U.S. Other popular drinks around the country include dirty martinis, espresso martinis, Aperol spritzes, and Long Island iced teas. Piña coladas top the list in tropical states like Florida and Hawaii, but it's also the most popular option in six other states: New Jersey, Virginia, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and Illinois. The pornstar martini — made with passionfruit liquor, passionfruit juice, and vanilla vodka, and served alongside a chaser shot of prosecco — wasn't the most popular drink overall, but it was the most-searched cocktail in 11 states, coming in second to the Long Island iced tea, which topped the list for 13 states.

Robin, of Batman and Robin Fame, Comes Out as Bisexual
Batman’s sidekick, Robin, appears to have come out as bisexual in the latest DC Comics edition of Batman. In 'Batman: Urban Legends #6', Tim Drake, in his guise as Robin, saves an old friend, Bernard, from a Chaos Monster. Later, dressed in his civilian clothes, he stops by his friend’s house and says: "I've been doing a lot of thinking about that night and I—I don"t know what it meant to me. Not yet.” To which his friend replies: "Do you want to go on a date with me?" Robin accepts, and Batman’s pal dates men now, too. The comic has generated a lot of applause from fans. One fan said: ”I am legit crying. I've spent years believing that Corporate DC was too scared to ever allow him to be bisexual beyond queer coding. It means a lot to have a smart, talented, bisexual character that I can identify with!”

Fight Breaks Out After Woman Helps Dog Locked In Hot Car — But Who Is In The Right?
A woman in Massachusetts helped a dog out of a hot car and the dog’s owners weren’t happy. The woman saw the dog in the hot car in a parking lot and waited 20-minutes before opening the door and giving the dog some water. She then waited 42-minutes for the dog’s owners. And when the owner finally did arrive, with her husband and child, she was not happy that someone had touched her car. The dog’s owner yelled at the woman "You touched my door on my car! Do you own my vehicle?" The dog’s owner explained the only reason the dog is soaking wet is because he "just went swimming"; the only reason he is shaking "is because you broke and entered my f--king car and touched my private property." The two then kept throwing insults at each other before the dog’s owner took off. **According to police, when the air temperature is 85 degrees — as it reportedly was in this instance — temperatures inside a car can reach a sweltering 123 degrees in 40 minutes... and rolling the windows down makes very little difference. A dog, meanwhile, can die of heat stroke in just 15 minutes.

US Wrestler Using Gold Medal Winnings to Buy Mom a Food Truck
Gold medal winning Olympic wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock is planning to make her mom’s "dream come true" by using the cash she won from the games to buy her a food truck. Mensah-Stock said, “She’s always doing back-breaking work and I’ve just seen her struggling ever since my dad died and I don’t like seeing it.” Mensah-Stock, who is the first black woman and second woman ever to claim a wrestling gold for the US, accomplished the feat by beating Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu. She will be getting $37,500 from winning gold, paid out by the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. The amount is untaxed unless athletes have a gross income over $1 million. Mensah-Stock revealed that her mom has sold food off a portable grill. She said, “I made a promise to her and she loves cooking. It’s just one of her passions. Growing up, we’d be like, ‘Ooh, mommy, you put your back into this food. Like you literally put your foot in it.’" She recounted telling her mom, "So how about I buy you a food truck and you can be anywhere you want to be? My mom was ecstatic. She’s like, ‘Yes, I would love that.’ This is five years ago. And I just keep telling her, ‘Just hold off, mommy, please just hold off.’” She and her mom already have a name in mind for the truck, "The Lady Bug."
